While many of us will be winding down over winter, our Coastguard Rescue Teams remain on call and ready to respond to anyone in need along our coastline. We're reminding everyone to stay safe along the coast this season, and what better way to do so than with a true tale...

Tips for staying safe along the coast this winter

Despite the cooler temperatures, many of us might still be planning a visit to the coast this winter - from relaxing ambles with the family to refreshing new year's dips. Whatever your plans, don't let your trip be one to remember for the wrong reasons. These simple tips could make all the difference.

  • Check the tide times before you visit to avoid getting cut off or stranded
  • Wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear
  • Avoid visiting the coast in extreme weather
  • Remember, alcohol and the sea don't mix
  • Acclimatise slowly when taking a cold water dip
  • Remember Float to Live
  • In a coastal emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard
